CEGO Circular Economy

The CEGO (Circular Economy Goes East and West) project is intended to promote the vitality and competitive abilities of the Uusimaa region in a sustainable manner by accelerating the realization of the business potential of circular economy within the operating area of the project. Circular economy primarily aims to ensure more ecologically sustainable production and circulation that preserves the value of materials, while simultaneously providing financial benefits to businesses. The regional implementations of the project also support the development of local economic structures and thus the vitality and wellbeing of the region.

For Keuke, the project's target group comprises businesses operating in various parts of the reconstruction sector. Together with the companies, we examine opportunities for developing current operations and find new areas of business under the various themes of the circular economy. The company-specific development plans produced during the project along with the sparring opportunities offered by specialists allow the businesses to turn new approaches and good practices into concrete actions. As a result of the project, companies in the construction sector increase their knowledge of the circular economy and learn how to take it into account throughout the different stages of reconstruction. The improved practices provide the companies a competitive edge and cost-savings, as well as the ability to respond to future demands of the construction sector. Additionally, business networks, new models of cooperation, and partnerships between the operators are also created during the project. By utilizing these cooperation relationships, the companies have the opportunity to engage in business activities that are more sustainable.

The project is carried out by Keski-Uudenmaan Kehittämiskeskus Oy Keuke, Posintra (Eastern Uusimaa), and Novago Yrityskehitys Oy (Western Uusimaa), while Laurea University of Applied Sciences acts as the coordinator of the project. Each development company focuses on a specific area of circular economy. Keuke's priority is reconstruction, Posintra works on extractable soil resources, and Novago concentrates on plastic products. Laurea integrates the different areas into a cohesive entity and distributes the created good practices further.

The main source of funding for the project is the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Project duration: June 1, 2021 – August 31, 2023. REACT-EU projects are financed as part of the measures carried out by the European Union due to the covid-19pandemic.
