We recommend reading up on entrepreneurship. One possible source to use is the guide to establishing a company, which you can find on Keuke’s website. The website of the Tax Administration and suomi.fi also provide good, reliable information. If your idea is already taking shape, we recommend that you sketch out a preliminary business plan. Taking an entrepreneurship course is also always advisable.
Even if you are just starting to think about entrepreneurship, you are welcome to discuss your thoughts with us.
First think whether you are going to establish the company on your own or if you have one or more partners. Also think whether you only intend to employ yourself or will you be pursuing growth and international markets. And what are the risks pertaining to your operation, what type of funding will you require, and are you looking to work part or full-time. You should also discuss your company form options with other people, such as Keuke's specialists.
When you are establishing a company, the fixed and variable expenses related to the operation of the company are assessed, including possible facility leases, accounting expenses, insurances, and salaries. If you sell products or services, the production of which also requires purchases, your marginal profits are also very significant. The expenses can usually be predicted quite well even during planning, but the assessment of income when you are just starting out is slightly more challenging.
You should consider your income by comparing your plans to companies already operating in your sector, thinking about what would be realistic in terms of time-management, or by making various calculations based on pessimistic, realistic, and optimistic sales predictions, for example. You should also go over your calculations with outside specialists, such as a business consultant at Keuke.
As realistically as possible, estimate how much time it will take to launch your operation properly and reserve enough operating capital to cover the expenses of your operation during the early stage, but also to secure your livelihood. Full-time entrepreneurs can apply for start-up assistance to support their livelihoods during the early stage of their operation, but you will usually also need personal savings or a bank loan, for example, to ensure sufficient operating capital.
The number of necessary permits and the amount of red tape is largely dependent on the sector your company operates in. Today, bureaucratic matters can largely be handled through online services, and Keuke can also help you here. A short, carefully planned bureaucratic stop outside of your comfort zone is worth it as you continue your journey toward your entrepreneurial dream.
